Andover Cares : The Heroin Crisis

The Rotary Club of Andover is taking a leadership role to address the opiate epidemic plaguing our community.

To raise awareness and money to help solve this problem, Andover Rotary is hosting the Andover Cares Festival in the Park, Saturday, October 17, 2015, 3:00pm to 8:00pm.

The club is selling  "Andover Cares" buttons to raise funds to support the education component of Andover's comprehensive three-tiered plan of intervention, enforcement, and education.

Buttons are $20. To encourage youth participation in addressing the heroin crisis, students can purchase buttons for $10 each. All proceeds from button sales and the October 17 event will go to the Andover Cares Fund to support education activities.

“We have club members whose families have been personally impacted. As we talked with people in the community, it was remarkable how many related stories of family members and others close to them who had been taken by addiction,” Rotary Club President Don Gottfried remarked, “Those with school age children express fear and anxiety over how to protect their children. For me personally with a child, I was shocked and scared when my wife recently ran into a town worker who related all the drug paraphernalia they’ve been finding in the park, right next to the middle school. It’s a very challenging problem and one we as a club are excited to be engaged with.”
