Last week was a great example of Service Above Self in action! In addition to our regular Thursday shift at the Lazarus House Soup Kitchen, we stepped up to help on Monday and Tuesday when they were short-handed — providing a total of 13 volunteers throughout the week.

We also had around 8 volunteers supporting Andona’s Clown Town on Saturday, May 17th.

A big thank-you to all the Rotarians and family members who gave their time and energy to serve our community!

Dues Credit for District Installation Attendance
The Board approved a $20 dues credit for club members who attend the District Officer Installation on June 17. See details in the image below these highlights.

To receive the credit:

  1. Register here

  2. Email your registration confirmation to Elaine.

Leave of Absence Policy Update
The Board will consider leaves of absence for up to six months at a time. To remain on the roster during a leave, members must cover the club’s costs—$100 for six months—which includes RI and District dues and club operations.
While advance notice is preferred, the Board granted two retroactive leaves at the last meeting. Members will be reactivated once carrying costs are paid.

✅ Recent Grants Awarded:

  • One Wish Project (via Family Services of the MV): $2,500 for birthday gifts for children in the Family Sponsor Program.

  • Village Food Hub (Ballardvale): $6,000 toward a District Managed Grant for food lockers.

    • The District may reimburse $3,000, funded by contributions to The Rotary Foundation (like our $25/quarter donations).

  • Ukraine Endoscopy Global Grant: $1,850 to support surgical care for wounded soldiers and civilians.

    • This will be added to the Global Grant once approved.

  • Scholarship Fund: Increased by $1,500, bringing the total to $9,000 for this year’s awards (paid in the next fiscal year, after July 1).

🎖 Citizen Who Cares – Planning Ahead
PE Ann shared suggestions for improving the event, including starting earlier with honoree selection and sponsorship outreach. All Rotarians are encouraged to help with fundraising and event participation.

🎉 RCA 30th Anniversary
PR Chair Ann Ormond is planning a Music Bingo Night & Fundraiser for August to celebrate our club’s milestone! Stay tuned!

💰 Financial Update
Treasurer Elaine Clements reported the club remains in the black. Timely dues payments are needed to finish the year strong.

  • Guests and service members attending more than one meeting have boosted operations.

  • Reminder: Service members must register and pay for any meeting beyond their one included breakfast.

📦 Storage Space Approved
The Board approved securing a storage unit for club records and supplies.
👉 Members: If you have banners, flags, T-shirts, or other materials, please notify Ann.

📜 Bylaws & Trust Documents Completed
Thanks to Peter Caruso and the team (Elaine Clements, Bob Lavoie, Ann Ormond, Jean Leider and Al Timm), the club’s bylaws and trust documents are finalized.

  • Trustees will now be elected by the Board.

  • Trust subcommittees (e.g., for international grants, scholarships or Andover Cares) will report to the Trust Committee, which will bring motions to the Board.

🌟 North Star Update
The committee will meet to review ideas for the club’s future. Chair Claudia Soo Hoo will summarize findings and help determine what to present to the full club.
